Access to splitboard terrain is achieved solely by your own effort, which often involves uphill skiing (touring ski). To prevent snowboarders from having to give up their favorite way of riding and switch to skis, the splitboard was invented in the mid-1990s. A splitboard is a snowboard that splits down the middle into two halves similar to skis, making the climb easier. Once you reach your destination, it quickly reassembles into a full board — or, if conditions allow, you can even descend with the halves separated like skis.
